Growing in the winter and starting our minibeast hotel

Check out the photos from last week's Gardening club.  Some fantastic growers had brought their cress seeds and radishes  back into school to show us how they were growing.  Outside, we made a start on building the minibeast hotel but we need your help to complete it.  We urgently need bricks, slates, old pipes, logs and chunky sticks to make a comfortable habitat for our minibeast.

Planting in our new story garden

This week we have been lucky enough to be one of the first groups of children in our new story garden.  As the gardening club we will be responsible for planting and maintaining the beds that sit behind the small benches that are around the garden.  We have planted two of the beds with bulbs for next spring and we have planted a lavender plant in one bed and a rosemary in the other.  We enjoyed touching these plants and smelling their gorgeous scent.

Harvest time in Gardening club

Over the summer the garden has become a bit of a jungle but the vegetables have been quietly growing.  This week it was time to harvest what had grown so that we can get the beds ready for our winter planting.  We sold the produce to the teaching staff and we raised over £8.50 which will go towards buying some winter onion sets that we can plant in the weeks to come.

Well done not only to the harvesters but to the children from last year's gardening club who planted and looked after the summer crops.

p.s. thank you to one of kind gardeners who brought in some basil and parsley that he had helped to grow at home so that we could taste it.
