Horse Club Week 3

Wow we have worked hard this week.  We all got the chance to see what it's like to look after your tack (horsey talk for bridle and saddle).  We rolled up our sleeves and got cleaning.

Very thorough, cleaning lifting up the saddle flaps.

 Cleaning the stirrup leathers.
There are two stirrup leathers to clean.
Well done girls, those stirrups are gleaming.
Look how shiny and clean this stirrup leather is.
The boys gave the saddle a fantastic clean.

These horse clubbers were showing how to hold the reins of the bridle.  They had a trot around the classroom with Horse Clubber F showing great control of his pony !
Top tip for holding reins - hold them like you hold a mug of tea with your thumb on top

See you next week TROT ON !!

  1. Well done, everyone.

Looking after a horse is not a simple job, especially if it's for show jumping or dressage.

In my role as a helper in our local country show, I photograph people competing in dressage and show jumping. Dressage especially requires a large amount of preparation of equipment and horse. Imagine braiding the horse's mane, blackening their hooves, and trimming their tail before having to saddle the horse with the gear you have cleaned.

It's a big job but the results of the hard work are amazing horses. :) Look for the equestrian events in the London 2012 Olympics.
